Our Focus
Out of a commitment to promoting a healthy and just society in Israel, Gandyr Foundation chose to focus on the field of care for sexual trauma and its consequences. This decision stems from recognition of the scope of the phenomenon and its impact on all aspects of the lives of survivors and on society as a whole.
Accordingly, we chose to focus on strengthening the resilience of care teams working with adult survivors (most of whom were harmed in childhood) in Israel’s public and third sectors. We believe that these care providers play a crucial role in maintaining society’s resilience: the knowledge that there are people who are willing to bear witness to the unbearable, to treat the wounds and the wounded, is precious knowledge and an important resource for society as a whole.
Due to the intensive work and emotional burden in this field, continuous support is needed for care providers to enable them to continue offering high-quality assistance while maintaining personal-professional balance and reducing burnout and secondary trauma. Therefore, the Foundation invests in processes aimed at preserving and strengthening the resilience of care providers, in cooperation with relevant government agencies and third sector organizations.
In parallel, the Foundation works to promote trauma-informed healthcare systems, so that every person can realize their right to receive optimal healthcare services, while considering their trauma background and its effects on their lives and understanding their unique needs.
Our Connection
The Foundation’s work in this field is led by Daria Yovel Azury, a member of the Foundation’s management. Daria shares:
“My connection to the field comes from my professional experience as a clinical social worker in mental health, and from the understanding that sexual abuse and early trauma play a central role in the development of extensive mental and functional difficulties.
The focus on care teams stems from the desire to invest resources effectively and create ripple effects of impact. I believe that supporting care providers, who work out of a sense of mission and often are willing to make personal and family sacrifices, will strengthen their ability to stay in the field long-term and provide stable, high-quality care to those who need it.”
Grants
Out of a belief in strengthening civil society organizations, the Foundation has supported numerous initiatives, programs, and organizations nationwide since its establishment. Grants in this field are directed to partnerships, civil society organizations, and public sector units working to strengthen the resilience of care providers in the field of sexual trauma and to promote trauma-informed healthcare systems. The Foundation upholds principles of partnership, learning, and innovation in all its actions.
