Our Focus
The Gandyr Foundation aspires to strengthen Israel as a Jewish, democratic, prosperous, and thriving state, in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence; a state that acts according to values of social justice, equality, and freedom, and operates from a balanced perception of power and a humanistic worldview. We view Israeli democracy as a precious and essential asset for our existence, one that cannot be taken for granted and requires determined efforts to preserve and nurture.
Within a complex reality of divisions and polarization, we seek to help promote a discourse of hope and create a shared moral foundation among the diverse groups and communities in Israeli society.
We believe that the resilience of democracy depends on strong institutions and structural arrangements that ensure its continuity, alongside civic and educational infrastructure that fosters democratic culture, civic identity, and the ability to act together. These foundations enable an engaged public to take an active role in shaping the country and society.
We believe Israeli philanthropy has significant influence and a responsibility to strengthen Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. We see philanthropy as an enabling force that connects people, organizations, and ideas and helps create lasting systemic impact.
Action Cannels
Democracy Education for Young People
The Foundation works to strengthen democracy education among young people by supporting organizations, developing knowledge, and promoting collaboration, based on the belief that education is a foundation for developing civic identity, public responsibility, and the ability to act in a complex and changing reality.
Developing the Civic and Philanthropic Field for Democracy
The Foundation works to strengthen the civic and philanthropic field by supporting field-building organizations, promoting collaboration, and expanding philanthropic engagement in this area. Our goal is to strengthen the field’s ability to operate in a coordinated, professional, and impactful manner over time, thereby contributing to the resilience of democracy in Israel.
Our Connection
Strengthening democracy in Israel is an integral part of Gandyr Foundation’s vision and of the longstanding commitment of Jude Yovel Recanati, the Foundation’s founder and Chair, her daughters, and their partners. Guided by a deep belief in philanthropy’s responsibility to help shape the future of Israeli society, the family leads the Foundation’s work in this area, both through the Foundation’s own activities and by initiating, leading, and partnering with other foundations and organizations working to strengthen democracy in Israel.
